Telecommunications Engineer CDR Career Episode Report 1

Project Title:- Haggai Puck Cordeiro Ferreira

This aforementioned career episode describes the project ‘Determination of Experimental Data to Support Chemical Process Design Demands’. This project took place in a chemical engineering research laboratory atFederal University of Rio Grande do Norte, called Centre of Petroleum and Gas, in the city of Natal, Brazil. I started on this research project in 2013 and the experiments went on until 2015, prior to my graduation in the first semester of 2016.It was based in Natal/Brazil.

The following points describes my roles and responsibilities in this project:

  • Carried out research by studying the books and journals and browsing useful websites on the internet.
  • Implemented safety procedures and standards while performing the experiment.
  • Analyzed the experimental results using laboratory equipment and discussed them with team members.
  • Developed the project document by using Microsoft Word and Excel software.

My laboratory and its researches have a big impact on advanced technology for real industries implementation, so I am very proud of having a project that is part of it. In this project, I solved some problems, accomplished many challenges and improved co-working interaction, as I worked with a colleague, my professor, and presented my work to my funders. Running and developing solubility data for comparison and to reduce the formation of hydrates in the MEG regeneration plant, I managed to apply my knowledge and skills got from my studies, and I learned so much from the project as well.

Telecommunications Engineer CDR Career Episode Report 2

Project Title: Haggai Puck Cordeiro Ferreira

This career episode elucidates the project ‘Determination of Experimental Data to Support Chemical Process Design Demands: Solubility of Carbonate Salts’ applied to different partial pressures. It took place in a chemical engineering research laboratory at Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. I was already in a research project (mentioned in Career Episode 1) since 2013, and atthe beginning of 2015, I began another research methodology for phase equilibrium running simultaneously. On this project, I was a university student responsible for determining experimental data with a new component to support chemical process design demands.

Responsibilities for this project were as follows:

  • Carried out research by studying books and journals and browsing useful websites on the internet.
  • Prepared the solutions of water and strontium carbonate and regulated the system with CO2 on the chosen pressure.
  • Implemented safety procedures and standards while performing the experiment.
  • Run the experiment for two hours daily and kept it resting for another hour.
  • Took two double samples and analyzed data of conductivity and atomic absorption to build curves of solubility, varying temperatures and pressure.
  • Analyzed the experimental results and discussed them with team members.
  • Developed the project document by using Microsoft Word and Excel software.

My project was completed on time. At the start of my project, it took considerable time to gather the information. This project has enhanced my practical exposure. It also helped me to develop the technical and project management skills. This helped me to become an effective engineer in this competitive market. I had applied all my theoretical knowledge to this project. I also followedall the safety precautions. This project helped me to grow professionally.

Telecommunications Engineer CDR Career Episode Report 3

Project Title:Haggai Puck Cordeiro Ferreira

This career episode describes the project ‘Determination of Phase Equilibrium Data for Separation Processes: Ethanol Extractive Distillation Using Ionic Liquid’.The project occurred in 2012 and went on for a year, when I presented the results and reports, and moved on to another research project. The research took place in a chemical engineering laboratory, called Centre of Petroleum and Gas, located at Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, in Natal/Brazil.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Performed research by examining articles and journals, and browsing useful websites on the internet.
  • Built the laboratory equipment to perform the experiment.
  • Worked with colleagues on the syntheses of the ionic liquid, 2-HDEAA.
  • Dehydrated the ionic liquid.
  • Developed thermodynamic experimental data.
  • Implemented safety procedures and standards while performing the experiment.
  • Analyzed the experimental results using laboratory equipment and discussed them with team members.
  • Developed the project report by using Microsoft Word and Excel software.

The project helped me to challenge myself one more time and overcome my limits. I expressed myself and applied my engineering knowledge and skills within the research. The most important factor is to develop experimental data and apply it to real life industries and processes. We found a solvent aiming efficiency and sustainability. In addition, I solved problems and made important decisions throughout the way. Finally, I reached our project goal, which was to prove that the ionic liquid 2-HDEAA has great potential for the application on the extractive distillation process.
